As a child, Laurie would sit in front of the chalkboard her mother gave her and draw for hours until there were mounds of chalk dust on the floor. Paper wasn't readily available. "Art was just something to do, it made people smile. Who knew you could make a career out of it?"
Following graduation from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, PA she moved from her home town in Butler, PA to the Cleveland suburb of Rocky River, Ohio. She spent the next twenty years plus as an illustrator on staff at American Greetings and raising her family. Those precious years provided her the knowledge and experience she now relies on to explore new horizons in her own studio, appropriately name CHALKBOARD STUDIO now located in Strongsville, Ohio. The title of ILLUSTRATOR DESIGNER is one in which she is most proud. It provides the opportunity to express her wide range of interests. Character design, imaginative portraiture and fine art, wallpaper, gift wrap and textile design, logo and corporate identity, graphic design, imagery collage, product themes, stained glass design and ornamental sculpture are all things that she had the opportunity to develop.
The types of media she employs includes watercolor, pencil, pastels, charcoal, acrylic, oils, and Sculpy to name a few. In addition to the many traditional tools, the age of technology adds an endless variety to Laurie's imagination. PhotoShop, Illustrator, Affinity, Procreate and Corel Painter programs provides new opportunities for her images. Her styles are as varied as her interests, from cute children's books to masculine textile design, from decorative floral motifs to contemporary moving graphics. The industry tends to put artists in a box. Resisting this, Laurie continues to explore new territories with her work.

Spring, summer, winter, fall...rain, snow and sunshine. The Designers beauty is all around us. Laurie celebrates the wonders of nature through experiencing its' beauty and creating impressions of those experiences.
